To support various public transport studies, Goudappel Coffeng has developed an import methodology to set up OmniTRANS public transport networks directly from HASTUS-files, an commonly accepted format.
HASTUS-files store, for a public transport line, the departure and arrival times at each stop as well as the stop location coordinates.
HASTUS is an integrated and modular software solution for transit scheduling, operations, and customer information. See also www.giro.ca.
HASTUS files contain information on the location of stops, the sequence of stops for each service and
the departure and arrival times for each service per stop.
Features include:
• Import is controlled via an automatically generated Ruby script making it possible to customize the import to specific needs.
• Where bus stops 'on the ground' are located a short distance apart, the import process can combine the import to specific needs
• Travel times between stops and transfer times are copied.
• A distinction is made between frequency and schedule based services.
• A distinction is made for the time of the day (morning peak, evening peak, trough period).
• There is an automatic connection made between railway and bus stations.
• Connectors are automatically added whereby travel time is dependent on the distance. The radius can be different between stations.
• Journey to position the vehicles i.e. busses/trams (e.g. from depot to first station can be excluded).
• Capability to update an existing OmniTRANS network on the basis of more recent HASTUS information.
One limitation is that the public transport line will not necessarily follow the links of the detailed underlying highway network between stops as this information is not supplied in the HASTUS-file. Omnitrans International is investigating the possibility of automatically determining a best fit with the actual transport network.
