Last summer, the Dutch government has launched the program "Better Use" with the aim of reducing the utilisation of cars at specific locations where intense congestion occurs. Within this context, the region of Maastricht has requested Goudappel Coffeng to test the effectiveness of 25 possible measures using the existing regional traffic model of Maastricht. Alternatives include shifting car journeys to a different time of day, encouraging other forms of transport and making a smarter use of the available road capacity. To respect the short deadlines associated with the study, the traffic model was migrated to the latest version of OmniTRANS, i.e. Version 6, which features cordon assignment and algorithms that can take advantage of multi-core processing.  The additional half day required to transfer the model was largely compensated by the improved performance which led to a total time savings of about 4 days. As a result, the region of Maastricht was in a position to rapidly propose concrete measures in support of the program "Better Use".  OmniTRANS Version 6, a better use of your PC, a better use of your transport network.
