Emissions calculations

OtEmissions

Air quality and climate change are important subjects on the political agenda and therefore also for transport planning and research. When evaluating measures using traffic models it is becoming a necessity to assess these effects. We therefore extended OmniTRANS with an integrated ‘Emissions-module’. The module can be used to calculate emissions based on both static and dynamic traffic assignments within your OmniTRANS model.

The Emissions-module calculates the emissions of CO2, NOx, PM10, CO and HC and the fuel consumption. It contains hot emission factors (abrasion inclusive) and cold start emission factors for passenger cars, light commercial vehicles and heavy goods vehicles. It supports different years (based on Dutch fleet compositions), different road types and different traffic conditions (i.e. free flow, heavy, saturated and stop and go). This means that the module explicitly takes traffic dynamics into account.

The module is based on the ARTEMIS model which is a state-of- the-art traffic situation based emission model. This model has been developed within a European project in which 40 European researchers collaborated.

The Emissions-module enables you to define your own emission factors and also allows you to import results from other assignments – static as well as dynamic – to calculate emissions based on these results. The emission results can be visualized on networks using OmniTRANS.
